Parent Infant Foundation
Grant Awarded
£120,000 over three years
Date
July 2023
We have supported the Parent-Infant Foundation (PIF) since 2020, recognising the critical importance of early relationships in shaping children’s lifelong outcomes. PIF plays a leading role in promoting infant mental health across the UK, working to ensure that all babies can form secure, nurturing relationships with their caregivers.
Our funding supports the expansion of specialist parent–infant relationship services, particularly for families facing disadvantage and adversity. These services offer early, evidence-based support to strengthen attachment and address challenges such as parental mental health difficulties, trauma and social isolation.
This work closely aligns with our early childhood focus. Secure parent–infant relationships are fundamental to children’s emotional, social and cognitive development, and are a key driver of school readiness and long-term wellbeing. By investing in this area, we aim to support earlier intervention, prevent escalation to more acute services, and improve outcomes for vulnerable babies and their families.
In addition to service delivery, PIF plays an important role in advocacy, workforce development and systems change. Our support helps strengthen a more coordinated national approach to infant mental health, ensuring that babies and infants' needs are better recognised and prioritised in policy and practice.
